Service Description

This is an on-going, self-paced, self-study course (dates are for demonstration) that provides a thorough presentation of the 12-Step program as a problem-solving formula for use by professionals to treat the myriad of substance and behavioral addictions. The 12-Step program is presented as outlined in the book Alcoholics Anonymous, starting with the preface written in 1939 through the final instructions. Professionals Applying The Big Book is included in the Food Addiction Professional Certification Primary Course, and is also available as a stand-alone course for individuals, with group discounts for multiple attendees from the same organization. Course Focus The workshop centers on the “context steps,” the “action steps,” and the “Fourth Dimension of Life,” demonstrating how professional counselors can increase their understanding of the 12-Step program and the use of 12-Step fellowships as a resource. The course format is based on using The Big Book as the foundation for treatment. Course Instructor Dr. Guttorm Toverud presents this course to more than 10,000 people. He has conducted these workshops for 30 years in both Norway and Sweden. Dr. Toverud is a specialist in using the 12-Step model for treating substance and behavioral addictions, allowing addicted individuals to learn how to live life on life’s terms.​ Guttorm Toverud has a Ph.D. in Counseling and Counselor Education with a specialty in addictions and a Master’s degree in Agency Counseling with an emphasis in addictions, both from the USA. Although residing in America, he works in Scandinavia helping clinics and public service providers both establish and run 12-Step-based treatment. He also provides clinical and programmatic supervision. Together with a psychiatrist he developed a model for early intervention entitled “Arriving too late… as early as possible.” Required Material Each participant must have a copy of the 4th edition of The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. Older editions are not appropriate.

REFUND POLICY: No refunds will be given; this includes registration for courses, programs, bookings, services or any INFACT School offerings purchased online in any manner whether via payment plan, discounts, coupons, or special incentives. All sales are final. This policy is in place to ensure that all students have access to the same high-quality education, regardless of their financial situation. By prohibiting refunds, we are able to keep tuition costs accessible for everyone, as every online purchase invokes an administration cost. We understand that there may be extenuating circumstances that prevent a student from completing a course or fulfilling a commitment made. However, we cannot offer refunds in these cases. If you are unable to complete a course or keep your commitment, we encourage you to ask about alternative options. We appreciate your understanding of this policy.
